A Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
Yes, it's been more than a month since I've made an entry, and to get my faithful viewers back, I've decided to write an entry about everything that is going wrong with my life.
Basically, this is the worst week ever. I should have known it was all going to turn to crap when my bike pedals came on Thursday and I discovered that I had the wrong type of shoes, and have to buy a new pair (which will be at least like $70. Then I left to go home for the prom, but not before getting a parking ticket for an expired meter (which could not have been more than 5 minutes... I kept putting dimes in cause I was "just about to leave" for about an hour, and there's no way it was expired any longer than a few minutes). Oh, and the night before I went home, I was taking the bike rack off my truck at like a quarter to midnight, and the tailgate fell off. Yeap, it just fell off. So, exhausted and in the dark, I fought with it for like 20 minutes, trying to figure out what the hell had happened. I finally got it back on, no thanks to all the people that were walking by.
So I went home. Prom was fun. The camp out... not so much.
I went home on Saturday and found out that because a company is buying Stop and Shop, my dad's contract is getting restructured and he's losing at least like $12,000 a year. And his job pretty much sucks now, and I really feel terrible for him. So, already having received so much great news in such a short period of time, I passed out for the rest of the day, and wasted almost all the time I would have had with my family.
Meanwhile, while all of this is going on, I've received virtually no response from the article in the Gazette about Bike and Build. I was hoping for a response of at least a measly 1/5 of 1% (80 people). The count so far: 3. So, with less than a month to go, I've raised a grand total of $2046 of the $4000 I'm supposed to have by June 15th. Fantastic.
Sunday, I tried to do some work at home, and actually got a little bit done. I was about to head back to Dartmouth when I called Molly to let her know I wouldn't be able to do lunch, and found out that I had left my cuff links in her purse so I wouldn't lose them. Great! So I had to drive to Huguenot before coming up to Hanover to pick them up. And then it poured the entire drive up. Oh, and I forgot my cell phone charger, so I don't have a phone to use.
I've got 2 midterms this Wednesday, neither of which I'm prepared for, and hardly any time to study (I'm only writing this because it is somewhat therapeutic). Today I had class until 12:20, then the plan was to go to McNutt, the financial aid office, to talk about Funds Limiting Barriers to get funding for lost wages this summer (just in the form of a bigger financial aid package, since Dartmouth expects us to make like $2300 or something over the summer, and I won't be able to do that), my flight from Seattle home, my bus ticket from Vancouver to Seattle, and the train ticket from NYC to home, because all of those are costs associated with volunteering for Bike and Build. Instead, I got McScrewed, because, as it turns out, they had the meeting this morning and dispersed all the funds that were left. My other options: None, according to a financial aid officer. I can try to have those lost wages covered by loans. That's my best shot.
Then, moving on to a new subject, I asked about Perkins loans, because if I do the Peace Corps, I can get a 15% reduction in loan capital for every year I serve (2.25), which, considering the massive amount of money I'll owe, would be a substantial help. But, Perkins loans are limited to $4000/year. This means that I probably can't do the Peace Corps, because instead of having that reduction in capital and being able to wait until 6 months after I've served to pay loans back, there is no savings and my loans must be repayed starting 6 months after I graduate Dartmouth (when I would be in Africa somewhere, making no money).
The rest of today will be spent writing a French essay that was due this morning, then paying a ridiculous $15 parking fee because I parked my truck in the parking garage, driving to West Leb to return my tux, then going 40 minutes in the other direction to my little brother's house (whose family is nice enough to let me leave my truck there), before getting a ride back to campus. I'll spend the next hour learning an entirely new part in "Pride" to sing this weekend before going to rehearsal from 8-10, and then I'll probably try to read for a couple of hours before failing miserably and passing out, only to wake up at 7 tomorrow morning for French drill, and a marathon of studying with another class in between.
They're right. When it rains, it pours. Check out the news: New Hampshire is drowning.

Fear not, John, for when large companies employ newly gradiated employees, especially ones as smart and qualified as you,(not to mention cute) they pay alll those student loans back for you. You need only give them your soul.
