Best. Weekend. Ever.
So this weekend was the Cords 10th Anniversary Reunion, and, basically, it was an amazing time. Having most of the alums from the past 10 years, including the founder of the group himself here was really a great experience. All of our alums are immensely talented, and knowing that we're carrying on that tradition is a really special feeling. And, of course, they're really sweet dudes and it was a lot of fun hanging out with them.
The show last night was easily the best performance we've had all year. The alums showed they've still got it (especially those T1's singing Pride, Footloose, and In the House of Stone and Light), and the audience was really into it. I got to sing in Pride, our opening song (for the older songs, current members rotated in and out, and visa-versa for the new ones), and it may have been the most fun I've ever had performing. I just kept looking around the arc and thinking what an honor it was to sing with those guys. And then seeing the reaction of the audience when Chris ('97, Sensei) hit the high C even stronger than Bono does was pretty cool. I was just thinking "Yeap, that's amazing. I know."
The rest of the show was great, and the debut of Sweet Caroline, with all of it's debauchery, was a huge hit. The Cords: Behind the Music video had people rolling on the floor, Conner's rendition of "Sexy" stopped the show (and may have made his mom, who was in the audience, cry... I didn't see her), and those hot guys (self call) who stripped to sing Faded, the encore, provided a solid finish. Also, it was cool to release a CD (a 3 song teaser) that I'm on. Really, a cappella doesn't get any better than all of that.
...And then the fun started. After all was said and done, the (paddle) pong tournament had been played in at least 3 different houses, Victor and I had held table for 5 straight games against alums (not tourey play), the SAE basement was... in real bad shape... and I'd made some really great friends. Probably the coolest thing was being given a jazz piano demo by Travis Buono '99 in the North Fayer basement at 10 to 7 in the morning. Or when I went to Victor's room this afternoon and said "Oh there's my jacket," and he came back with "You were in my room last night?" Definitely a great night.
The tournament finished today, with current members coming from behind to take it by half a cup. Then we said goodbye to the alums after a stirring rendtion of the alma mater up at the lone pine.
And that was my Green Key, Cords 10th Anniversary Reunion Weekend.
Sweet.
