A good weekend
My dad came up Saturday morning for the weekend, so I got to take Saturday off, which meant I could actually go out Friday night which was awesome because I hung out with Noelle and Marco and played pong with Sam, and that's pretty much the definition of a good night.
And then my dad came up :). It was a good time. We went for a hike on Cardigan Mountain (I can't say that without hearing Madmardigan, for all you Willow fans.) It was awesome until we got to a spot completely covered with ice (from runoff that had frozen), with no way around it and a pretty much sheer drop on the side. I tried to cross and did, but not without falling and sliding, so my dad and I decided to turn back. Except I was kind of stuck there... but he helped me back, and then we had an adventure getting down the mountain and were both pretty sore after. It was awesome.
Then we went to the hotel which was awesome because I had my own room and there was a fireplace, which is never a bad thing. We hung out there pretty much and ate dinner and sat around and watched TV (it was just like being home :) ). Lots of pregame Superbowl coverage until we were sick of it, and then we watched Grizzly Man, which you all need to see and then tell me what you think. And I'll tell you what I think. It will be a wonderful conversation, I promise. Then we went to bed.
Sunday we woke up and ate a pretty sweet breakfast and then bought some stuff for the Superbowl party. We tried to go for a walk on the golf course but the golfcart paths were iced over... so we just walked on the grass and picked out some awesome spots for sledding... I can't wait for it to snow! I thought I had awesome hills at my house (OK, not really awesome... but I mean, they're not bad) but these are amazing. And I had my dad bring up a sled when he came, so now all I need is the snow.
Then we had the Superbowl party which was great because I didn't expect many people to show up... I left my room to go downstairs to get the pizza and there were like 4 people over, and when I got back maybe 5 minutes later there wasn't a place to sit down. So that was great. And the Steelers won, which made it even sweeter. Though I feel bad for Seattle because, I mean, what do they have out there? Frasier is done, they had to share Starbucks with the rest of the country (they can have it back) and grunge is pretty much dead (no pun intended) (I'm a terrible person, I know). But I mean the Bettis story is so good, and Pittsburg is such a blue collar city, so they really deserve it. Oh and Alexander should not have been MVP. So... Yeah Steelers!
Monday we ate breakfast again which was cool and then went to this store in Norwich that has... everything... and I'm not even kidding. The place defies physics cause you walk into like a shack and then enter this alternate dimension with infinite space holding everything from bird calls to shop-vacs to crockpots (which were all within like 10 feet of each other on shelves). Their motto is "If we don't have it, you don't need it," and I'm pretty sure they're right.
Then I went to physical therapy which is always fun because I get electric currents put through my knee and it tickles. We ate at this cool Italian place after, and I got a meatball grinder, aka meatball sub, aka meatball hero, aka meatball parm... and there was one more name that I counted but I've forgotten... let me know if there's another way to say meatball sub (which is the correct way).
And then my dad went home. The weekend went by too fast, and it sucks I'm not gonna see him or my mom for another 5 weeks. But it's cool.
Last night there was a surprise party for Marco which was great because surprise parties are awesome. His birthday is today. I couldn't stay long cause I had to come back and read the Federalist Papers, which I didn't do anyway... but... you know. I really meant to.
I also watched House of Sand and Fog yesterday which just made me upset. Great movie, though. Oh, and The Thin Red Line as I went to sleep, which was stupid because it seemed to be protesting our presence in WWII, which is pretty much the most ridiculous thing you can do. And by ridiculous I mean bad and stupid, cause sometimes I use it to mean awesome... probably because I say awesome a lot and realize I need synonyms. Anyway, yeah, I mean... whatever, James Jones (writer) and Terrence Malick (Director). Let's not have any wars ever. That way, we can be a communist British colony with slaves that speaks Japanese and German. Awesome. And also, while I'm on the subject, if you call me pro-war, you also better call people who advocate abortion pro-mutilation and murder of babies. It's the same logic, but I don't think any one who would accuse me of being pro war would say that about people who are pro choice, so think about what you're going to say before you say it. Cause I'm sick of that.
