An entry about entries; aka, "The Entry That Goes Like This"
I apologize to all of you who have come here over the past few days hoping to find some sort of original thought, and finding nothing of the sort. Truth is, I've been swamped of late with gov, music, my LSA+ (language study abroad) app, working (actual employment) physical therapy, and big brother. For instance, some of the questions on the French application:
One of your hosts expresses views that you find objectionable, offensive, or strange. How do you handle the situation?
You have now been in France for several weeks. Since your courses are exclusively for Dartmouth students, and only a few host families include young people your age, what initiatives will you take to integrate yourself into local life and activities?
You discover that another student on the program has a serious health problem (bulimia or alcoholism, for example) which risks negatively affecting the student’s work and relationships with the host family and the group. S/he does not want to confide in anyone and may even deny that there is a problem. Would you take any action? Explain.
And... the ubiquitous: What single experience or event has most profoundly affected you?
(If you have any suggestions for these, (except the last one) I'd love to hear them! It's due Wednesday :-/)
Anyway, I promise new entries over the next few days about Big Brother (exciting), global warming (we're so screwed), epic snowball fights that haunt S&S in their sleep, my thoughts on the Al-Zawahri video, my opinion of Machiavelli (not such a bad guy) and possibly I'll reveal a stunning secret about Brave New World. Yes, my friends, it's all in the works. Meanwhile, I hope all is well. Take care!
